Semaglutide & GLP-1 Programs

Physician-prescribed GLP-1 therapy including semaglutide and tirzepatide, tailored to your metabolic profile and health history.

GLP-1 receptor agonist medications, including semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy® and Ozempic®) and tirzepatide (Zepbound®, Mounjaro®), work by mimicking hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar. They are among the most extensively studied weight management medications available, with a body of clinical literature supporting their use in appropriate candidates.

At El Paso Weight Loss Center, GLP-1 therapy is not prescribed off the shelf. Every patient undergoes a full medical consultation and baseline lab work before any prescription is considered. This allows our providers to evaluate candidacy, identify contraindications, and establish a starting point for monitoring your response.

Therapy is self-administered via a weekly subcutaneous injection (under the skin). Your first injection is administered in-office so your provider can demonstrate proper technique. Subsequent doses are taken at home, with regular monthly check-ins to assess tolerance, adjust dosing, and review labs.

Common side effects, particularly nausea, bloating, or digestive changes, are most common when starting or increasing dose and typically ease over time. Your provider will discuss what to expect and how to manage these effectively.

This therapy is not appropriate for patients with certain personal or family histories of thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, or specific metabolic conditions. A thorough consultation is required to determine if GLP-1 therapy is safe for you.

What to Expect

  1. 1

    Initial Consultation & Lab Work

We review your medical history, current medications, and health goals. Baseline blood work is ordered to evaluate your metabolic profile and confirm candidacy.

  2. 2

    Program Design

Your provider selects the appropriate medication, starting dose, and titration schedule based on your individual profile, not a standard protocol.

  3. 3

    First Injection & Training

Your initial dose is administered in-office. Your provider demonstrates proper injection technique and answers any questions before you take doses at home.

  4. 4

    Monthly Monitoring

Monthly follow-up visits assess your tolerance, adjust dosing as needed, and review labs. We track meaningful progress markers beyond just weight.

Questions About Semaglutide

Common questions from patients exploring our programs.

Am I a candidate for semaglutide or GLP-1 therapy?

Candidacy depends on your BMI, medical history, current medications, and absence of contraindicated conditions. A consultation with labs is required to make this determination, we cannot assess candidacy without reviewing your health information.

How much weight loss can I expect?

Clinical studies have shown meaningful average weight loss in patients using GLP-1 medications alongside lifestyle changes. Individual results vary considerably based on factors including starting weight, adherence, diet, and overall health. We do not make specific weight loss promises, your provider will set realistic, individualized expectations during your consultation.

What are the most common side effects?

Nausea, mild bloating, and changes in digestive patterns are the most frequently reported effects, particularly when starting or increasing dose. These commonly improve over several weeks. Rare but more serious effects are discussed during your consultation.

How long will I need to take the medication?

Program duration is individualized. Most patients participate for several months to over a year depending on their goals and response. Your provider will outline a realistic timeline based on your situation.

Can I use GLP-1 therapy if I have type 2 diabetes?

This depends on your current diabetes medications and your provider's assessment. Some GLP-1 medications are also used in diabetes management, but coordination with your diabetes care team is essential. Please share your full medication list at your consultation.
